An antique plaster larger than life size bust of Claude Galien who like Hippocrates was a great figure of ancient medicine. His anatomical studies of animals and his observations of the functions of the human body dominated medical theory and practice for fourteen centuries. This piece was displayed in a medical centre for many decades and then kept in a Doctor’s home for many more.
The piece is marked but it is hard to make out in it’s entirety. See photographs.
