A pair of French traditional wooden milking stool or plant stands with braced bobbin style legs. These have been painted in a mushroom type purple. A mix between purple and pink in Mr EVE’s eyes, Mrs EVE calls the colour taupe. These ones are in good cosmetic condition and good structural condition with signs of age as detailed below.
Sourced: in Normandy, France
Origin: French
Age: circa 1950-60’s
Materials: wood
Size roughly: tallest 45h x 35 x 35 cm – 18h x 14 x 14 inches extreme measurements (seat 27 x 20 cm – 10.5 x 8 inches)
Condition: in vintage condition with signs of previous use, paint looks to have been done quite recently and is in good order, varnish wear – but it looks like it has been revarnished over the years, note the slight warp to the seat from holding a heavy plant pot over the decades, these stools are initially made without the use of glue or nails relying on good joints only, over the years these joints tend to wear and loosen often leading to some historical repairs, the smaller one has some slight wiggle to the legs and the legs are starting to push through the top a little, the larger one is good. You may find a little glue is needed in the future to secure things in place as the joint loosen further with loose but if used lightly it should be fine for decades to come, still seemingly strong and functional. Good examples of these country cottage style stools, please see all pictures
